Budgets are a Pro and Max feature. Free teams keep every record and can still read existing budgets.

## Create a budget

Open the budgets screen, choose a category or group of categories, set an amount and period, and save. The budget shows what you have spent and what is left.

## Rules

Rules assign a category and tags when a payee or keyword matches. They run in order, so put the most specific rule first.

## Categories versus budgets

A category describes what a record is. A budget limits how much you plan to spend. One budget can cover several categories.
